Managing Partner
Alan Pritt is a founding member of Pritt & Spano Law. Alan grew up in Winfield, West Virginia and has been active in the communities of Kanawha and Putnam County. He graduated from Marshall University summa cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science. He attended WVU College of Law where he received his J.D. in 2010. At the College of Law Alan was a member of the Entrepreneurship Clinic where he aided West Virginia small businesses and start-up companies.
Prior to founding Pritt and Spano Law, Alan was a solo practitioner at the Law Office of Alan Pritt. Alan has represented clients in family law, criminal law, and civil litigation. During the last several years, Alan has worked tirelessly to protect children as a prominent Guardian Ad Litem in Kanawha, Putnam and surrounding counties. Additionally, Alan served as legal counsel to the West Virginia Senate while serving as Committee Counsel to the Senate Finance Committee during the 2015 Legislative Session.
Managing Partner
Joey Spano is a husband and father of two boys. He is a managing partner at Pritt & Spano PLLC. Before starting the firm, he was a senior assistant prosecuting attorney in Kanawha County. Mr. Spano graduated from George Washington High School in Charleston, Concord University in Athens, WV, and WVU Law School. At Concord, he was a captain of the football team and an all-conference linebacker. When he's away from the office, Mr. Spano enjoys participating in all our beautiful state has to offer. In Charleston, he enjoys coaching youth sports, boating, and hiking. He also enjoys riding ATVs, fishing, hunting, and shooting while at his family farm in Ravenswood.
Prior to founding Pritt and Spano, PLLC, Mr. Spano practiced with the Office of the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney for several years. He prosecuted criminals in numerous misdemeanor and felony trials. Mr. Spano worked in Magistrate Court trying over 100 misdemeanor bench trials, with many of those being DUI’s. Mr. Spano also represented the State for the first year of the Kanawha County Domestic Violence Pilot Court, where he prosecuted domestic violence and gained much experience in Kanawha County Family Court. Mr. Spano’s numerous years in Circuit Court practicing before the Honorable Judge Charles King, Jr. There he covered numerous felony trials, plea agreements, probation, and home confinement violations and expungement hearings. As a prosecuting attorney, Mr. Spano has tried hundreds of misdemeanor and felony trials gaining an unprecedented amount of court room experience. Mr. Spano has experience in criminal law, family law, and DUI representation. He is also skilled in civil law, in which he has worked on wrongful death, mesothelioma, federal 1983 and car injury cases. Mr. Spano is experienced in estate law and is trustee over 200 trusts and special needs trusts.
When Mr. Spano is outside the office he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He also enjoys sports, hunting, hiking with his three dogs and enjoying West Virginia’s finest craft brews.
Office Manager/Paralegal
Melissa Abernathy is the firm's Office Manager and Paralegal. She earned her Associates Degree in Paralegal Studies in 2016, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. While in school Melissa interned at Pritt & Spano and has now been with the firm since 2016. Melissa resides in South Charleston with her two children, T.J. & Destiny. In her free time Melissa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, hiking, and doing small projects around the house.
Paralegal
Originally from North Carolina, Misty moved to West Virginia in 2008 and has proudly called it home ever since. She joined the firm in May 2025 as a file clerk and later transitioned into her current role as a paralegal, where she assists with civil, criminal, and special needs trust matters. She enjoys the balance of detailed legal work and meaningful client support that comes with each case.
Before entering the legal field, Misty was self-employed for eight years. That experience strengthened her organization, time management, and problem-solving skills—qualities that continue to guide her work today.
Misty earned her Bachelor's degree in Forensic Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University in 2019 and a Master's degree in Cybersecurity from Maryville University in 2024. She is currently completing a second Master's degree in Forensic Psychology at Southern New Hampshire University, with an anticipated graduation date of July 2026. She has a strong interest in the intersection of psychology, technology, and the law, which adds a unique perspective to her work.
Outside the office, Misty enjoys spending time with animals, being near the water, exploring West Virginia's natural beauty, and adding to her ever-growing rock collection. She brings curiosity, attention to detail, and a steady commitment to supporting both our attorneys and our clients.
Legal File Clerk
Carrie Webb is the firm's Legal File Clerk and joined the team in July 2025. She brings more than 16 years of experience in the legal and insurance industries. Throughout her career, Carrie has assisted in placing hundreds of structured settlements for workers' compensation and personal injury cases, supported bankruptcy filings, performed paralegal duties, and helped clients navigate their insurance needs. She is also a licensed insurance agent.
In her role with the firm, Carrie supports attorneys and paralegals, prepares legal documents as needed, manages and closes confidential files, and provides assistance to clients to help ensure their matters are handled efficiently and professionally.
Carrie resides in Elkview with her husband, Ronnie. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, riding side-by-sides in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Legal Secretary
Kara White was born in Elkins, West Virginia and grew up in Logan, West Virginia. She has an Associate Degree from Southern Community and Technical College. She has worked in the legal field for 8 years. She is engaged and has four bonus children.
Legal Secretary
Paige Legg has a passion for the legal field and helping others, she has grown up in the legal field as her mother is a paralegal and takes a lot of her inspiration from her. She is from Deltona, FL but considers Clay, WV her home. She is a wife and a mother to an 11-month-old baby boy. Outside of the office Paige enjoys cleaning, fishing, and camping. She also enjoys traveling back to Florida yearly to visit her family.
